It is important that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable, so I offer a free 20-min initial telephone conversation where I can answer any questions.
The next step is to book a time for an assessment. An assessment provides you with a safe and confidential space to begin to discuss the issues that are troubling you.
The assessment gives us both the opportunity to decide if the approaches I offer are right for you and what approach best suits your needs and circumstances.
The length of time you will need counselling will vary according to your needs and individual situation. Psychodynamic counselling is usually a long - term, open-ended therapy, however, this can be adapted to a more solution focussed short-term treatment. We will think about this during the assessment and decide what form of therapy best meets your needs and circumstances.

Counselling is confidential, which means what you share stays between us. The only exceptions are rare situations where I have a legal or ethical duty to break confidentiality—such as if there is risk of serious harm to you or others, or concerns about safeguarding children or vulnerable adults. I also receive regular professional supervision, where I may discuss aspects of my work to ensure I am practising safely and effectively, but your identity is always protected.
Children and young people under 16 have the same legal and ethical rights to confidentiality in counselling as adults, provided they are deemed capable of understanding the process (known as Gillick competence).
I understand that parents and carers often want to be involved or informed, they don’t have an automatic right to access what’s discussed in sessions or view therapy records without the young person’s consent. I would only break confidentiality if there’s a serious risk of harm or a legal requirement to do so. Wherever possible, I aim to be open and transparent with the young person and will only share information with others if they agree.
